The KK River redevelopment project has been an ongoing
collaboration between MMSD and the 16th Street Community Health
Center to create a safer KK River corridor that will also enhance the
quality of life in the Lincoln Village neighborhood. LVBA has
participated in drafting a neighborhood plan associated with this
project and will work on the development of amenities along the river
once the project is completed. Such amenities may include
sculptures, community gardens, a bicycle trail, and improvements to
nearby streets.

This fall, a new gateway sign to the business district will be installed in the
triangle park formed by W. Lincoln, S. Chase, and S. 6th Street. The sign
(pictured at left) will be placed to maximize its visibility from motorists traveling
along all three routes. The intent is to alert passing motorists to the
presence of the business district, have an attractive landmark that
complements the architecture of the business district, and demonstrate
investment in the neighborhood.
The gateway sign will be installed simultaneous to new banners along W.
Lincoln Ave. This project was coordinated with the assistance of the City of
Milwaukee Healthy Neighborhoods Project and local affiliate, Urban
Anthropology Inc.

The Annual Meeting of the Lincoln Village Business Association will be held on Tuesday, January 20th, 6 pm
at Tres Hermanos Restaurant, 1332 W. Lincoln Ave. All business owners, property owners, and
neighborhood residents are encouraged to attend. Please join us as we review our achievements of 2009 and
plan for our activities of 2010. This meeting will feature updates from all LVBA committees and district wide
updates from Executive Director Neil White. Three Board of Director positions are up for election at this
meeting.
If you are unable to attend, please contact the LVBA office or check the LVBA website for updates and to
check on the progress of our business district.
Toy Giveaway At Instant Tax Service
|
In the spirit of holiday giving, Instant Tax Service, 515 W. Lincoln Ave,
will be hosting a Toys for Tots Holiday Toy Giveaway event.
On Saturday December 19th, from 10 am to 3 pm, free toys will be
available for children up to age 12 while supplies last.
The Lincoln Village Business Association is planning a number of holiday
festivities for the business district and the neighborhood this winter. The
events will build around the many things that make Lincoln Village a great
neighborhood to live and work; residents’ pride in their homes, a sense of
community, and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra concert at the
Basilica of St. Josaphat.
Many Lincoln Village residents show their holiday pride by decorating
their home and yard during the holiday season. This year, LVBA will be
holding a contest among homeowners to see who has the best holiday
decorations. The first annual Lincoln Village Holiday Home Lighting
Contest will award families for the highest quality and most extensive
decorations. No matter what holiday a family may celebrate, this season
is a great opportunity to show to rest of the neighborhood how much
pride each participant has in their community. A judge from LVBA will
determine first, second, and third prize winners based on four criteria:
quality of lighting, decorations, creativity, and theme.

Reconstruction of 13th Street
|
The South 13th Street corridor will be redeveloped from W. Cleveland
Ave on the south to W. Windlake Ave on the north. This project, which
has been planned and stalled for years, is a shovel-ready federally
funded economic stimulus project.
Slated to break ground in the Spring of 2010, the redevelopment
project will install new concrete to the roadway as well as the painting of
new and better driving, bicycling, and turning lanes.
The project will feature new crosswalks at W. Cleveland, W. Hayes, and
W. Lincoln Avenues.

Additionally this holiday season, LVBA will continue the tradition of hosting a Christmas tree lighting ceremony
in the triangle park at the intersection of S. 6th St and W. Lincoln Ave. On Sunday December 20th at 1 pm,
carolers from the St. Josaphat Basilica Elementary School will sing holiday songs and hot chocolate will be
provided. The winners of the Lincoln Village Holiday Home Lighting Contest will be announced at this
ceremony. This event will happen just before the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra will hold their annual concert
at the Basilica “Holiday Classics Messiah” at 2:30. Everyone is encouraged to attend this event and share their
holiday spirit and pride in our neighborhood.
Before the end of the year, MMSD will announce the addresses of an additional 57 homes which must be
removed to complete this project.
The toy giveaway is part of a nationally coordinated program between Instant Tax Service and the US Marines.
The giveaway will also have hot chocolate that is donated by Starbucks Coffee. If you would like to volunteer for
this great event or if your business would like a poster to advertise this giveaway, please contact the LVBA
office or Jim Douglas of Instant Tax Service at 375-7202.
Pre-registration will be held December 4th from 10am-6pm.
Grants Available for Minority-Owned Businesses
|
The Lincoln Village Business Association is making available to minority-owned
businesses a grant for website development. A necessary, though usually expensive,
piece of doing business is the development of an attractive and informative website.
As commerce moves more and more towards online sales and promotion, every
profitable business needs to maintain a presence on the internet.
With the assistance of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), the LVBA office is offering a grant for
the development of your minority-owned business’ website. We will work with you to find a professional website
developer as well as guiding you through the grant process. The funding is made available by the Department
of Commerce’s Minority Business Development program, which requires that the recipient must be a minority-
owned (more than 51%) business.
Perhaps the biggest improvement from this project will be the addition of new trees and a 3 foot wide strip of
greenspace between the sidewalk and the roadway to make walking more enjoyable through the neighborhood.
As with any road reconstruction project, delays and lane closures are expected throughout the time that work is
being done. The work will pay off with an improved roadway and is expected to be completed by the Fall of
2010.
