New Businesses
Monterrey Market

This Spring, local business owner Robert Montemayor opened a
grocery store, Monterrey Market, just south of Lincoln Village at 3014
S. 13th Street.  The full-service destination grocery store is a welcome
addition to the neighborhood and offers a wide selection of fruit,
vegetables, grocery, meats, as well as a financial services office that
offers money order, notary, and billing services.  Monterrey Market is
open 7 days a week from 8 am to 9 pm.
New Planters In Lincoln Village
In June of this year, the Lincoln Village business district was fortunate
to receive new plantings in the flower boxes that line W. Lincoln
Avenue.  The Lincoln Village Business Association has a partnership
with the UW-Extension Master Gardeners program to have each
planter filled with new flowers every year.  LVBA also works with local
property and business owners to ensure that these    flowers are
watered and stay healthy throughout the year.
The planter program has been in place for 3 years, and the support
from local business owners for this program has been overwhelming.
On Thursday July 29, 2010, informational meetings were held
regarding the proposal to create two Business Improvement Districts
(BID) in Lincoln Village.  The BIDs are separated by the varying needs
of the   district and will use two separate operating plans.  The
boundaries of the Lincoln Village and Basilica Square BIDs are
outlined to the right.  The process of pursuing the creation of these
BIDs has been evolving for years and has placed a great importance
on input from local property owners.

In 2007, LVBA hired a consultant to perform a door-to-door survey of
property owners regarding their support of a BID.  This survey also
gave insight to what property owners prioritized for activities in the
operating plan.  In the three years since this survey, LVBA has
contacted every property owner and produced operating plans with
proposed assessment rates that best meet the priorities indicated in
the survey while still remaining affordable.

Reconstruction of 13th Street
The South 13th Street corridor will be redeveloped from W. Cleveland
Ave on the south to W. Windlake Ave on the north.  This project, which
has been planned and stalled for years, is a shovel-ready federally
funded economic stimulus project.

Slated to break ground in the Spring of 2010, the redevelopment
project will install new concrete to the roadway as well as the painting of
new and better driving, bicycling, and turning lanes.

The project will feature new crosswalks at W. Cleveland, W. Hayes, and
W. Lincoln Avenues.
A copy of the operating plans, assessment information, future meeting updates, the survey results, and other
information is available on the LVBA website  page “
BID Info”.  Please contact LVBA with any questions or
concerns that you may have.
Los Soles Restaurant

Lincoln Village welcomes a new restaurant that has opened in the
former Morelia’s Market space at 1428 W. Lincoln Ave.  Los Soles
Restaurant specializes in Mexican seafood with daily fish specials and
traditional Mexican cuisine.
The brightly painted walls and festive atmosphere are nice compliments
to chef Salvador Valdivia-Jimenez’s menu. The restaurant is located
between Tres Hermanos and La Canoa restaurants, representing a
growing core of Mexican seafood specialists in Lincoln Village.
The addition of these planters has helped to beautify the business district and demonstrate to visitors that our
community values a well-designed and maintained image.
In recent months, LVBA has received multiple requests for new planters along the street.  It is the intent of LVBA
and UW-Extension to maintain this  program in the coming years.   If you would like to have a planter at your
business or property, please contact LVBA for more information.
Grants Available for Minority-Owned Businesses
The Lincoln Village Business Association is making available to minority-owned
businesses a grant for website development.  A necessary, though usually expensive,
piece of doing business is the development of an attractive and informative website.
As commerce moves more and more towards online sales and promotion, every
profitable business needs to maintain a presence on the internet.
With the assistance of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), the LVBA office is offering a grant for
the development of your minority-owned business’ website.  We will work with you to find a professional website
developer as well as guiding you through the grant process.  The funding is made available by the
Department
of Commerce’s Minority Business Development program, which requires that the recipient must be a minority-
owned (more than 51%) business.
Perhaps the biggest improvement from this project will be the addition of new trees and a 3 foot wide strip of
greenspace between the sidewalk and the roadway to make walking more enjoyable through the neighborhood.
As with any road reconstruction project, delays and lane closures are expected throughout the time that work is
being done.  The work will pay off with an improved roadway and is expected to be completed by the Fall of
2010.
Magnum Insurance

Another new business has opened in Lincoln Village, Magnum
Insurance has recently moved into the storefront at 1108 W. Lincoln
Ave.  Services offered by Magnum include life, home, car, and business
insurance.  Magnum is another business franchise locating in Lincoln
Village from the Chicago area.  With a current retail gap in financial
services, this is an ideal business to enhance the economic vitality of
Main Street.
The interior and exterior of the property was rehabilitated in early 2010
by owner Abel Rodriguez, who also rehabilitated the Benny’s Pizza,
Lincoln Theater, and Lincoln Wireless buildings.
